# statement and assumption logical questions

In each question below is given a statement followed by three assumptions numbered I, II and III. You have to consider the statement and the following assumptions, decide which of the assumptions is implicit in the statement and choose your answer accordingly.

21. Statement: The university Authority has decided to decentralize conduct of terminal examinations and give this responsibility to each college for its students to avoid delay in declaration of results.

Assumptions:

1. The colleges are equipped to carry out this responsibility.
2. There may not be uniformity in evaluation standard across the colleges.
3. The students may welcome this new development.
 A. None is implicit B. Only I and II are implicit C. Only II and III are implicit D. Only I and III are implicit E. None of these

Explanation:

The university must have taken this decision keeping in mind the efficiency of the colleges. So, I is implicit II is vague and is not implicit. The statement mentions that the new policy would help avoid delay in declaration of results. So, III is also implicit.

22. Statement: Ten candidates, who were on the waiting list, could finally be admitted to the course.

Assumptions:

1. Wait-listed candidates do not ordinarily get admission.
2. A large number of candidates were on the waiting list.
3. The number of candidates to be admitted is small.
 A. None is implicit B. Only I and II are implicit C. Only II and III are implicit D. Only I and III are implicit E. All are implicit

Explanation:

Since the wait-listed candidates have been admitted, so I is not implicit. Also, nothing about the number of candidates on the waiting list or the number to be admitted can be deduced from the statement. So, neither II nor III is implicit.

23. Statement: The successful man has the ability to judge himself correctly.

Assumptions:

1. Inability to judge correctly causes failure.
2. To judge others is of no use to a successful man.
3. The successful man cannot make a wrong judgement.
 A. None is implicit B. All are implicit C. Only I and II are implicit D. Only II and III are implicit E. Only I and III are implicit

Explanation:

Assumptions I and III directly follow from the statement and so both are implicit. Also, the basic quality of a successful man is that he can judge himself. This means that he need not judge others. So, II is also implicit.

24. Statement: A State Government suspended two additional district judges.

Assumptions:

1. They were negligent in discharging duties.
2. There was a charge of misconduct against them.
3. The government officials were biased against them.
 A. None is implicit B. Either I or II is implicit C. Any one of the three is implicit D. Only I and III are implicit E. Either I or III is implicit

Explanation:

A person holding an office is generally suspended on charges of misconduct or negligence of duty. So, either I or II is implicit. III seems to be vague and so it is not implicit.

25. Statement: Bill Clinton is the second democrat to be re-elected as President of America, the other being the legendary Roosevelt.

Assumptions:

1. Clinton has the same qualities that Roosevelt had.
2. The majority of people in America have faith in Clinton.
3. The election campaign of Clinton’s rivals was not impressive.
 A. Only I is implicit B. Only II is implicit C. Only III is implicit D. Either I or III is implicit E. Either II or III is implicit
